THE OBJECT.

Mission Zero’s intended flight is to autonomously reach (99942) Apophis, match its heliocentric trajectory, and sustain a controlled companion position offset above or below the asteroid’s local orbital plane so the spacecraft preserves solar exposure and a favorable Earth communications geometry as both continue around the Sun.

Forever is the design ambition, not a guaranteed performance claim. Indefinite stationkeeping requires propulsion, power, communications, autonomous fault recovery, verified post-2029 ephemerides, and a feasible replenishment or end-of-life strategy.

01 INTERCEPTFind a feasible transfer opportunity and approach corridor.

02 MATCHReduce relative velocity and establish safe stand-off.

03 HOLDMaintain a controlled, plane-normal companion position that favors solar exposure and Earth-link geometry while preserving autonomous outage survival.

04 CONTINUEDetect disturbances, replan, correct drift and sustain the mission as resources permit.
